It’s great to see that we, as a culture, are embracing technology and acknowledging its importance in our education system . However, it will also be necessary for schools and states to devise standards in the content areas which incorporate the use of technology, rather than just separate standards for how to use technology.
As far as the digital divide, I believe its been bridged much more than the article suggests. Many students who qualify for free lunch still have cell phones, computers, and iPods, etc…. also the schools with the poorest students tend to apply for the most grant money for technology. Alhambra district, for example, aims to have a smartboard in every classroom.
